The no83 AF Corse Oreca Gibson set the pace in the second 90-minute Free Practice session on the opening day of the 2024/25 Asian Le Mans Series season. Matthieu Vaxiviere posted the best time of 1m52.924, which was 0.125s ahead of the second placed DKR Engineering Oreca of Laurents Horr. However, the time was 0.805s slower than the best time in FP1 set by Olli Caldwell in the no20 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca.
In FP2 the third fastest LMP2 runner was the no24 Nielsen Racing Oreca of Nicky Catsburg with a 1m53.421, four tenths ahead of Tristan Vautier in the no30 RD Limited Oreca.
LMP3 was headed by the no34 Inter Europol Competition Ligier, with Douwe Dedecker posting the best time of 2m03.051, 0.055s ahead of the no15 RLR MSport Ligier of Ian Aguilera and 0.365s ahead of the no35 Ultimate Ligier after Stephane Lemeret set a 2m03.416.
The best of the 25 GT competitors was the no81 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG of Rinat Salikhov, who set a 2m05.285, six tenths ahead of the no57 Kessel Racing Ferrari 296 of Ben Tuck, with the no28 AF Corse Ferrari finishing the session in third spot with Massimiliano Wiser posting a 2m06.321 best lap.
Mercedes-AMG were fourth and fifth at the end of the 90-minute session with the no2 Climax Racing in fourth with 2m06.402 set by Bihuang Zhou, with the no9 Getspeed of Steve Jans just 0.01s behind in 5th.
Qualifying for the 4 Hours of Sepang is due to get underway at 09h50 (local) tomorrow morning with the 15-minute GT session, followed by LMP2 and LMP3 at 10h15.
